Visit Sweden’s historic floating Maritiman, comprised of 19 vessels afloat on Gothenburg’s ‘Göta Älv’ river

Climb aboard the historic vessels that make up the Maritiman floating museum. There are an impressive 19 vessels to explore, Småland, Lightship Fladen, and Monitor Sölve. Inside you can get involved with the Ocean Lab and join in the daily guided and themed tours, fun for all the family.

Did you know:

  • The oldest vessel at Maritiman is the HSwMS Sölve which was built in 1875.
  • HSwMS Sölve was then sold to be converted into a barge in 1919, joining the museum in 1992
  • The Lightship Fladen is a lightvessel built in 1915 that was once stationed in the Baltic Sea at Hävringe and then Öland Bank
  • HSwMS Småland is a Swedish Halland-class destroyer and together with HSwMS Halland they were the only ones built of their class
  • Destroyer Småland was decommissioned in 1979
  • The Göta Älv, Gothia River, has the largest drainage basin in Scandinavia
  • The river has dams, canal locks, and a hydropower station, and the locks control the flow of the river so that large cargo vessels can navigate the waters

The kids will love the Ocean Lab experience as they board the Maritiman museum. Start off your day with some fun experiments with the team, learning about the sea and life on the water. Don´t miss our daily guided tours where you can uncover all the curiosities and learn about what ship life was like on board the vessels. Quiz Time will entertain the younger ones and have them guessing fun facts about the sea.
