Lying 30m below the ground, the Aeroseum hangar was originally built for Göta Flygflottilj (F9 – No. 9 Wing), at Säve Airfield. Today it is a fascinating museum showcasing historic aviation machines from the Cold War, as well as modern aircraft, helicopters, and other machines and vehicles.

Aeroseum is a dynamic experience and visitors are encouraged to take part with the interactive exhibits and displays, to virtually fly, construct, and restore old aircraft and helicopters. Aersoeum is a great one for all the family, and especially those with a keen interest in technology and science!

Please note: Aeroseum is closed on Jun 8, Jun 11, Jun 22-23, Dec 17-25, Dec 31 & Jan 1

The Experience:

Exhibitions

There are a range of exhibitions at Aeroseum, open all year round. Here you can learn about the Cold War, why it started, the politics at the time and some of the most important facts. The exhibit Spies takes a look at the Swedish spies during the Cold War, and their importance as a reliable source of information.

The Stasi exhibition reveals the East German state-run organization that spied on civilians during this time, reporting their behaviour to state security police. This exhibition invites you to think about today’s society and how it is still observed and informed. The Atomic Bomb was the most feared threat during the Cold War and this exhibition explains the effects of bomb should it have been detonated and how nuclear power can be used today for other purposes.

There are many more exhibitions offering insights into the Swedish air force and history of the Cold War which visitors will find fascinating. Learn about the construction of the hangar, health issues that affected aviation, as well as air defence and airborne police and coastguards.
